Commonly Used Materials For Custom Fasteners
Selecting materials with superior properties improves component longevity. Listed below are the common materials used in custom fastener fabrication:
Aluminum
Known for its lightweight nature and corrosion resistance, aluminum is often used in aerospace and automotive industries where weight savings are critical.
01
Brass and bronze
Brass (an alloy of copper and zinc) and bronze (an alloy of copper and tin) are valued for their corrosion resistance and visual appeal. They are commonly used in decorative applications as well as in marine settings.
02
Stainless steel
This is valued for its strength, durability, and corrosion resistance. It is versatile and extensively used in various industries, including construction, automotive, and manufacturing.
03
Titanium
This boasts an exceptional strength-to-weight ratio, corrosion resistance, and high-temperature resistance. It is commonly used in aerospace, medical, and marine applications where strength-to-weight ratio and resistance to harsh environments are crucial.
04
Ceramics
These provide excellent heat corrosion resistance and electrical insulation properties. They are ideal for extreme environments like high-temperature or corrosive settings where other materials may not perform well.

Cleaning & Polishing
●CNC Machining: Computer-aided software ensures perfect milling, turning, stamping, and forming.
●Coating: Coatings, including electroplating and powder coating, protect against corrosion.
●Grinding: Grinding achieves a precise end configuration specific to your design.
●Heat Treatments: Heat treatments can help improve the life and durability of your custom fasteners.
●Hot Forging: Pressing, hammering, or other forming process using heat for enhanced performance.
In order to produce the highest quality custom made fasteners, we adhere to strict industry standards for dimensions and tolerances. The dimensions and tolerances of our custom fasteners are determined by the type, size, thread pitch, and length of the fastener. The following table outlines the standard dimensional requirements for each feature:
Size
For both internal and external threaded parts, the nominal size shall be as specified on drawings or order documents. All sizes shall be in inches (fractions or decimals)
Thread Pitch
Thread pitch is the number of threads per inch. This is determined by the standard thread series being used, either Unified Coarse (UNC), Unified Fine (UNF), American National Coarse (ANC), or American National Fine (ANF).
Length
The length of the fastener is specified in either inch (fractions or decimals) for screws, or in thread diameters for bolts and studs.
Tolerances
Tolerances on length shall be ± 0.25 inch from the nominal size unless otherwise specified. Other tolerances such as major and minor thread diameters, pitch diameter, and height of heads must also be specified to ensure the highest quality product.

There are certain environmental considerations to keep in mind when selecting the appropriate material for your custom fasteners. Read the below information to help you choose the best solution for your application needs.
|
Consideration |
Why It’s Important |
Custom Design Options |
|
Fastener Strength |
Some applications require high yield strength to carry heavy loads. Consider if your fastener will be exposed to things like intense pressure, torque, or vibration. |
Common materials for heavy duty applications include steel, stainless steel, titanium, and aluminum. Locking elements can also be used to ensure your fasteners remain secure. |
|
Corrosion Resistance |
Substances like saltwater or harsh chemicals may cause your fasteners to corrode overtime. Certain materials and/or fastener coatings can prevent corrosion and wear to your fasteners. |
Materials with corrosion resistant properties include steel, stainless steel (18-8, 316, & 410), aluminum, and brass. Zinc plating, galvanizing, and chromate coatings can also protect against corrosion. |
|
Temperatures |
Certain applications require fasteners that can operate in intense heat or freezing environments. The wrong material can melt or lose it’s ductility when exposed to extreme temperatures. |
Common materials known to withstand extreme temperatures include stainless steel, aluminum, copper, and brass. |
